The role of Deputy Chief Executive was created specifically to help lead and secure the organisation’s operational delivery and assist the CEO in the developing and driving the strategy of SBHI.
Principle duties
The Deputy Chief Executive is the most senior staff role after that of the CEO and, as such, will have the responsibility and authority to support the development of SBHI, in addition to driving forward operational excellence.
The Deputy Chief Executive will significantly assist the CEO in the management of the core operations of the organisation with the necessary planning, information, and ICT functions to support the delivery of key services.
The role will act as the senior accountable officer in terms of operational delivery of the organisation’s objectives and will be responsible for ensuring that required standards and targets are met.
In the absence of the Chief Executive, the Deputy CEO will have responsibility for the overall performance and operational management of the organisation, ensuring that a robust performance framework is in place and that the effectiveness of SBHI to deliver high quality and efficient services is enhanced.
The Deputy CEO will also ensure we give confidence to our funders, regulators, and wider stakeholders around our operational performance whilst engaging staff in contributing to our ongoing development.
As a senior leader, the Deputy Chief Executive will be expected to act as a role model for the organisation’s mission and provide high quality and visible leadership to all staff.
As Deputy CEO, and on behalf of the CEO, the Deputy will work closely with the Board of Directors and the SBHI Management Team in relation to key elements in our operational performance to ensure relevant and timely progress is achieved.
The Deputy CEO will be proficient in recognising the need for strategic influencing and developing powerful and sustainable relationships with key internal individuals across SBHI and key external stakeholders, such as Pobal and the HSE.
In order to deliver the key operational objectives, the Deputy CEO will work closely with staff and managers to motivate, support, and offer challenge on delivery.
The post holder will also deputise for the Chief Executive as appropriate. They will be required to report to the Board of Directors when requested.
Along with the CEO, the Deputy CEO will be responsible for the financial management of the organisation and a background in financial management is essential for this role.

The candidate must possess:
• A sound background in and knowledge of the not-for-profit sector
• Relevant 3rd level or professional qualification
• Management experience of at least three years within a medium-sized organisation in either the public or private sector. Ideally this experience would be in a social or healthcare environment and will include experience of:
o Financial planning, general management, and control
o Human Relations management
o Organisational development and managing change.
o Leadership
Experience and Knowledge:
• Evidence of excellence/innovation in the organisational environment and of working within a leadership team/s.
• Evidence of collaborative working with partner organisations in the achievement of joint initiatives.
• Financial management experience with an ability to promote concepts of value for money, effectiveness, and efficiency in the operational management of the organisation.

Access to own transport, with personal vehicle insurance to cover business travel and a clean driver’s licence. This post will involve travel nationally as required.
