Overview of the role
The Senior Instructor will lead the day to day running of the new Kick Off! Programme. This includes facilitating the admission process, implementing the agreed documentation systems, ensuring delivery of the agreed timetable, managing assigned programme staff, taking responsibility for the facilities in which the programme is delivered, sourcing participant placements, speakers and facilitators and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all participants.
Organisational Relationships
Reports To: Service Co-ordinator (RT and Transitions).
Direct Reports: Staff assigned to Kick Off! Programme.
External Liaison: HSE (Disability services / Safeguarding Teams), Families, Tipperary ETB, Nenagh AFC and other community and voluntary services.
Internal Liaison: Services Manager, Finance Manager, Senior Instructors, RT team.
Main Responsibilities
Admissions
- Develop and implement the entry process for current St. Cronans participants in RT and ROOTS to join Kick Off!
- Conduct entry interviews and assessments of potential participants to determine suitability of the young person for Kick Off!
- Liaise with the participants, families and staff in St Cronans to organise transfers to the programme, including the completion of entry and exit forms and arrangements for transport.
Location Set-Up and Responsibilities
- Conduct risk assessments in conjunction with the Health and Safety Officer and Service Co-ordinator to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants in the new location.
- Set up the facility to meet the needs of the programme and participants.
- Act as the point of liaison between Nenagh AFC and St Cronan’s on day to day issues.
Assessment and Planning
- Ensure that all participants have a one-page profile, safety plan and This is How I Manage assessment completed prior to entry to Kick Off!
- Develop a Personal Plan for each client within 12 weeks of commencing the programme. Plans should be developed in line with the new HSE Framework on Person Centred Planning.
- Ensure that all Personal Plans, and Safety Plans are reviewed at least quarterly.
- Act as keyworker to up to 5 clients.
Programme Delivery
- Develop a detailed monthly timetable in advance for each day of programme delivery.
- Assign module and activity delivery to all members of the team based on their strengths and interests where possible.
- Develop and file written lesson plans for all modules / time-tables sessions delivered.
- Liaise with community organisations, including the ETB to deliver some elements of course content.
- Ensure that assigned staff are available and competent to deliver the assigned elements of the programme.
Management of Staff
- Take responsibility for the day-to-day management of staff assigned to Kick Off! This includes management of time and attendance, probation reviews and performance reviews.
- Liaise with the Services Co-ordinator to ensure regular team meetings are held.
- Attend Unit Lead meetings as required.
- Support the induction of new staff.
Supporting
- Promote the recognition of and respect the rights of individuals with an intellectual disability at all times.
- Support participants as required to engage positively in their programme, taking time to listen to them and engage with them as adults.
- Lead and manage the planning process around individuals in area(s) of responsibility and ensure progression of individuals lives through their individual plans.
Liaising with Families
- Liaise with families as required in a calm, courteous and professional manner.
Transportation
- Drive the company vehicles in line with agreed policies and procedures as required.
Budget Management
- Manage the day to day spending for the programme within the agreed budget.
Team Work
- Function as an effective member of the Client Services Team.
- Ensure the Service Co-ordinator is informed on an ongoing basis of relevant issues and concerns through an agreed format.
- Actively participate and contribute to meetings in a positive and professional manner.
Reporting and Systems
- Use the HR Locker System and any other electronic systems required by the organisation.
- Produce reports on activity for your assigned area as requested.
- Submit monthly reports on your area of responsibility to include KPIs regarding matters such as staffing, health and safety, training, attendance, quality and risk.
Quality and Safety
- Assume the role of Fire Warden and First Aid Officer for the location.
- Engage in the EASI assessment process.
- Ensure that all trainees have a Safety Plan Assessment to inform the management of any associated risks to themselves or others.
- Report all accidents, incidents complaints, safeguarding issues, questionable practice to the Manager or designate. It is your duty to report any concerns you have for the safety and welfare of the clients of St Cronan’s Association to your Manager immediately in line with Trust in Care (2005).
- You are also legally obliged to comply with the Criminal Justice (Withholding of Information on Offences Against Children and Vulnerable Persons) Act, 2012.
- Be conscious of Health & Safety matters in the workplace and, in particular, comply with employees’ obligations as set out under Section 9 of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 2005 and other relevant legislation.
- Be familiar with St. Cronan’s policies and procedures and ensure that such policies and procedures are strictly adhered to.
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of the people we support in line with St. Cronan’s Association policies, statutory requirements and HSE protocols. This includes ensuring that safeguarding issues, complaints and incidents are appropriately reported in accordance with national and local guidelines.
Other
- Undertake training as required.
- Any other duties that fall within the scope and responsibility of the post.
- Participate in performance management.
- Participate in team meetings, staff meetings, reviews and service evaluations.
- Show flexibility in response to organisational change and development.
- Ensure confidentiality of information.
- Adhere to the organisation’s policies and procedures.
- Any other duties as deemed appropriate by the Service Co-ordinator.
