Originally founded in 1987,as Cork AIDS Alliance, to provide support to people living with HIV, the Sexual Health Centre is now a leading organisation supporting and promoting sexual health in Ireland.
The Sexual Health Centre is now seeking an exceptional individual to join our team and provide one-to-one and group support as well as administrative assistance within our health promotion team. We recognise that furnishing people with the skills to effectively respond to sexual health issues is crucial to overall wellbeing. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the overall strategy of the Sexual Health Centre.
The Sexual Health Centre has an ambitious programme for a future where sexual health is recognised as an integral part of life, barriers to access sexual health services are removed, social stigma and discrimination are challenged, each individual feels safe to express their sexuality, and people make informed decisions regarding their sexual wellbeing and treat each other’s life choices with the utmost respect. Our services provide free and confidential information, counselling and support to help people make positive, healthy lifestyle choices to improve their wellbeing.
The purpose of this role is to support young people to improve their experience of sexual health, healthy relationships and education. The aim is to develop and deliver the Sexual Health Centre’s Health Promotion Programmes for young people and groups in addition to providing administrative support to the organisation. The role will be responsible for responding to queries and supports for young people, parents and professionals working with these groups.
This is a part time fixed term contract until April 2026 -subject to ongoing annual funding, which is expected to continue. Interviews will be conducted shortly after application close.
Responsibilities of your role will include:
- Develop, deliver and evaluate training programmes to young people, to develop their skills, knowledge and confidence in the area of sexual health.
- Create an empowering, non-judgemental, positive and welcoming atmosphere within the Sexual Health Centre
- Build an individual’s capacity to navigate their sexual health, enhance their self-esteem and reduce risk-taking behaviours.
- Deliver tailored health promotion programmes in a variety of settings to marginalised groups, universal groups or individuals as set out by the organisation.
- Support the delivery of one-to-one interventions, drop-in services, condom demonstrations, condom distribution and helpline within the organisation.
- Establish and maintain an excellent rapport with clients to create a respectful and trusting relationship whilst providing ‘persistent and challenging support’.
- Empower and encourage all people to access Sexual Health Centre programmes with particular emphasis on ‘at risk’ groups as defined by the organisation.
- Co-ordinate, provide and deliver testing opportunities both in the Sexual Health Centre and in an outreach capacity, including but not limited to, Rapid HIV testing and STI testing services.
- Participate in the overall administration and delivery of the work of the Health Promotion team.
- Perform other duties commensurate with the nature of the post. It is important that all members of staff are prepared to take on additional duties or relinquish existing duties to maintain efficient running of the organisation. All roles will develop, and the Sexual Health Centre may change the role scope in consultation with the post holder.
Education / Professional Qualifications:
- A relevant qualification in health promotion, youth work, community development or other relevant area (Level 6 NFQ or higher)
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders and to build strong working relationships is essential.
- Group Facilitation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, social media platforms and online service delivery options
- Experience in developing and managing training programmes.
Requirements
- A full clean driving licence.
- Relevant experience in the area of sexual health or health promotion.
- Group facilitation of people from diverse backgrounds.
- A flexible working style and the ability to respond effectively to emerging/unexpected needs.
- Innovative thinking and project planning is essential.
Terms and Conditions
Salary: €32,800 ,000 (€41,000 pro rata)
Contract: Fixed term contract ending in April 2026
Hours: Part time contract 4 days per week (30 hours) but alternative work arrangements will also be considered. Due to the nature of the post, evening or weekend work may sometimes be required.
Holidays: 24 days annual leave (pro rata)

The Sexual Health Promotion Officer will report to the Centre’s Operations Manager.
