LGBT Ireland is a national charitable organisation which provides support services to Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans and Intersex (LGBTI+) people and their families. Informed by the issues and experiences raised through our frontline services we also provide training and advocacy to enhance the visibility, inclusion and rights of LGBTI+ people living in Ireland.
Key Information:
Salary: 9-point scale €32,074 - €41,656 pro-rata, salary offered will be based on experience
Hours: Part-time, 21 hours (3 days) per week
Reporting To: Senior Training and Advocacy Manager
Working With: Refugee Key Worker
Term: Fixed term 1 year contract, with possible extension subject to funding

About LGBT Ireland’s LGBTI+ work with IPAs and Refugees:
LGBT Ireland has been working to support LGBTI+ people seeking international protection in Ireland, as well as refugees, since 2018. Our work ranges from frontline service provision (peer support service called Is Rainbow Muid), training and awareness, national level advocacy on all aspects of the international protection system including IPAS- the International Protection Accommodation Service (Direct Provision). Key components of our refugee work are:
Ø Monthly IRM peer support service with strong safeguarding procedures and wraparound support services and referrals
Ø Client case work with relevant states agencies and other NGOs
Ø Supporting positive mental health & wellbeing by strengthening sense of belonging/ community connection through a range of activities (online and in person)
Ø Training of key stakeholders on the specific needs of LGBTI+ IPAs and refugees- including IPAS centre managers and staff
Ø National advocacy to effect relevant policy change and implementation
Purpose of this Post:
This post offers an exciting opportunity to an experienced and passionate individual with a background in community development, community work, multi-agency work, integration- or similar field- to further develop the work of LGBT Ireland as we endeavour to strengthen integration pathways for ‘rainbow refugees’ in local geographical communities with their rich array of community groups and activities, as well as LGBTQI+ communities. The post will have a strong focus on increasing awareness and understanding among key stakeholders of the specific needs and challenges faced by this invisible and very vulnerable cohort of the LGBTI+ community and the refugee community.
Structure of this Post:
This is a part-time role on a 1 year fixed term contract, with possible extension subject to funding. This post is funded by DCEDIY.
This is a hybrid post which will require a minimum of 1 day per week in the Dublin office. The post holder will report directly to the Senior Training and Advocacy Manager.
Key Worker Role & Responsibilities:
· Delivering awareness-raising inputs on the specific needs and challenges faced by LGBTI+ IPAs and refugees through online / in person presentations, meetings etc.
· Researching integration opportunities- existing and potential- and initiating new links and networks for the organisation to harness
· Forging new partnerships with local community development groups, organisations, networks via knowledge of this infrastructure at county, regional and national levels and strong relationship and communication skills
· Co-facilitation support at monthly peer support meetings, other events and activities
· Supporting the activities core to the peer support service
· WhatsApp group communication to share and promote relevant information and activities
· One-to-one support relevant to specific project activities
· Attending relevant sectoral events and networks representing the organisation and forging good working synergies and partnerships
· Tracking relevant community development and integration policy / strategies actions and identifying opportunities for collaboration
Person specification
The ideal candidate will have:
· A proven track record in community development / community engagement activities or other similar work
· A proven track record in multi-agency collaborative work in a driving capacity
· Strong knowledge ecosystem at local, county and national levels to support migrant integration
· Strong knowledge of the international protection system
· Strong presentation skills online and in-person
· Strong in-person and online communication skills
· Ability to communicate with warmth and compassion while maintaining boundaries
· Strong understanding of and commitment to confidentiality, including handling and storing sensitive data
· Respect for cultural diversity, gender equality and an appreciation of Irish culture
· Strong and reliable in a team as well as when working independently
· Strong written and spoken English
· Good IT skills
· Willingness to travel within ROI
· Possess work permit
The ideal candidate is also likely to have the following desirable qualities and competencies:
· Strong knowledge of LGBTI+ issues
· Experience of collaborating with sporting organisations, cultural institutions and the creative arts
· Fluency in some foreign languages
· Clean driving license
